Wikis are so last-century

Many organizations these days use wikis to allow people to collaborate on projects, and documentation. Problem is, the out-of-the-box wiki works, just, for assembling pages of unrelated items, like an encylopedia. For anything more structured however, it falls well short.

In the animated movie "the Incredibles" there is a wonderful scene where Edna (clothing designer for the superheroes) explains to Mr Incredible all of the reasons why he shouldn’t have a cape on his next super-suit. At the end, she sums it all up nicely: No Cape!

With any project, there are three areas that really matter: the available budget, the available time, and the desired quality. Anyone who tells you that they can deliver high-quality, at low cost, in a short timeframe, with all the bells & whistles... is lying!

There is an old cartoon which depicts several different versions of a tyre swing. The various panels show the evolution of the concept - as marketing requested it, as sales ordered it, as engineering designed it, etc... The final panel in the sequence shows "what the customer wanted".
